Annual Bazaar
The annual bazaar SociStore was held from 17 Feb to 21 Feb at Run Run Shaw Podium. The theme was old Hong Kong and a number of tradition Hong Kong snacks along with our brand new society products were sold. The profits will be used to support our upcoming events and the operation of our society.
Society Outing
Our society outing was held on 8 March at the Aberdeen Country Park. The participants and the executive committee members had barbecue, mass games and lucky draw.
Letterpress Workshop
The letterpress workshop was held on 6 April at Kwong Wah Printing Co.. The participants had a taste of the now rarely used movable type printing and looked for their own names from the thousands of metal blocks.
Hong Kong Culture Discovery Tour
The Discovery Tour was successfully held on 12/4. The society led the participants to visit old shops, heritage and cultural sites in Central and Sheung Wan.
Joint University Sociology Touch Camp 2014
The JUTC 2014 was co-organized by the Social Sciences or Sociology student societies of 4 universities. With the theme "Gender stereotype", the camp introduced sociological concepts to secondary school students through games and actitivies.
Farewell Party of Prof. Lui Tai Lok
The executive committee members of the Sociology Society attended the farewell party of the Department head, Prof. Lui Tai Lok on 28/7. We presented Prof. Lui a portrait of himself and a thank you card.
Welfare Week
The welfare packs were distributed to the members during the Welfare Week.
“News - Channel to the Truth?”Exhibition
News is without a question one of our main sources in obtaining information every day. Are all news biased in nature? Is the news media reflecting, or representing our reality? Does objectivity really exist? Is its presence so important? This exhibition leads you to think more about these questions
Orientation Day
The Orientation Day was held successfully on 23/8. Freshmen played mass games, HKU hunt, and learned about "survival tips" at HKU.
Orientation Camp
The Orientation Camp was held at HKU Kadoorie Centre from 28/8 to 30/8. The theme of the camp "Deviance" was presented through games and various activities.
Career Talk Series
The Career Talk Series was successfully held on 24th and 25th of Septermber, 2014. Our guest speaker for the first talk was Ms Y. M. Lee (AIA District Manager), and our guest speakers for the second talk were Mr. Ngan Lap Tei Rick (Wells Fargo NA Hong Kong Branch) and Mr. Kenny Leung (columnist of Ming Pao). Thank you all for coming and we sincerely hope that the sharing of our Sociology graduates were useful to our participants.
Open Sem Dinner
The Open Sem Dinner was held on 12/9. Participants played games and shared delicious food together. We hope the Open Sem Dinner can cheer our participants up at the beginning of the semester.
